Nowadays, you can see a monster in almost every movie you watch – from aliens to creepy mutants eating people in the sewers. However, there are some monsters that stood against the time and they are as popular today as they were during the time they were created. Here is my list of 10 of the best monster movies that I love:

1. Alien (1979) – This movie will allow you to face one of the most vicious space monsters of all time, which has acid for blood. According to the movie experts, this movie represents the ultimate battle between humans and aliens and I have to say that it is a must watch for all, who love monster movies.

2. Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) – A young girl creates a fairy-tale world, which she uses to escape the reality. The inhabitants of that enchanted forest are a giant toad, faun and child-eating monster, which I have to say, is one of the scariest monsters I have ever seen. It carries its eyes in its hand and once you watch the movie you will have nightmares with it for quite a while.

3. Jaws (1975) – This is one of monster movie classics. In this movie, you will see how a calm day at the beach can turn into a battle of life and death between the men and a vicious white shark, which eats its victims piece by piece. The main thing I love about this movie is the theme song and I personally think this is the best one ever created.

4. Frankenstein (1931) – There is no way for you to think of a monster movie and not remember Frankenstein. In this movie you will see how a scientist creates a monster from body parts of different dead people and manages to bring it to live. Despite the fact that you will probably not get frightened by Frankenstein, this movie remains one of the best monster movies of all time.

5. The Host (2006) - This movie shows the birth of a vicious monster in the sewers of Seoul. As you can guess, the monster has great taste for human blood and I have to say that this is one of the ugliest monsters I have ever seen on the screen. It is up to you to hunt it, so be prepared….

6. King Kong (1933, 2005) – There are 2 remakes of this amazing movie and I recommend watching both of them. In those movies, you will watch how a monstrous gorilla breaks free in New York and tries to save its beloved one.

7. Gremlins (1984) – Ever wondered what will happen if you eat after midnight? You have to watch Gremlins to find out. You will see how a quite furry pet turns into a monster and starts to trash the town with its fellow gremlins.

8. Dracula (1931, 1992) – Do you believe in vampires? What do you know about them? Prepare to meet the most famous vampire of all times – count Dracula. You will enter the world of the immortals, where the human life has really low price and where feelings do not matter.

9. Godzilla (1954, 1998) - Godzilla is one of the most popular movie monsters in Japan. The timing when the movie was released was more than perfect - almost a decade after the nuclear bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the release of the movie Godzilla quickly became a symbol of nuclear weapons in general. If for some reason you do not know anything about Godzilla, rush to the nearest video store and buy the DVD, because Godzilla is one of the few symbolic monster movies ever created.

10. Night of the Living Dead (1968) – A satellite falls from space and crashes near the suburbs. Although there is nothing terrifying about this, the satellite releases radiation, which has the ability to give life to the dead. Despite the fact that this movie had really low budget, it managed to become one of the monster classics of all time.

Most of those movies are broadcast on the TV, but in order to get better quality of the picture you might need satellite TV (in Danish the term is sattelit TV) and HDTV.

@meta-bee Pan's Labyrinth is awesome movie. I loved it, but it is still some kind of mind boggling.

Pan's Labyrinth is a great film. My favorite monster is a toss up between Frankenstein and Dracula. I'm a sucker for the Universal (and the Hammer) classics.

Great list! I loved Cloverfield personally, once I got over the car sickness that is :-) Seriously, very nightmarish.

Jaws was not a monster, merely a living creature hunting food. Pan's monster while being pretty freaky didn't actually hurt anyone, just scared her.
